Hi, in this post I will show you how to install TWRP on REDMI 4X, if you have been following our previous post, we posted a tutorial on how you can flash any Custom ROM on your Redmi 4X. in that we show that to install TWRP you will need to unlock the bootloader.
To check if your device is in stock recovery or custom recovery, you’ll need to press “Volume Up”, “Volume Down” and “Power” buttons, or if you have official MIUI ROM installed, then go to “Settings” > “About” > “System update” > Three dots icon and “Reboot in recovery”.

How to install TWRP Custom Recovery on Xiaomi Redmi 4X

We have outlined the step by step process below for your understanding. Ensure you follow the instruction as outlined in this post.
  1. You must have unlocked bootloader you can check it here if you are new
  2. Download ADB Drivers from here.
  3. Download TWRP for your Android version:
  4. Reboot into fastboot mode by pressing “Volume Down” and “Power” buttons at the same time.
  5. Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
  6. Start the “Flash-Redmi 4x TWRP.bat” file from the unpacked TWRP archive.
  7. Confirm installation by pressing “Enter” button on your keyboard.
  8. Now your device will automatically boot into custom recovery mode.
  9. Warning if you’re installing TWRP without flashing new ROM, go to “Advanced” > “Tools” and disable boot partition encryption, otherwise, official ROM won’t start.

How to flash Official MiFlash .img ROM using TWRP Custom Recovery

  1. First, you will need to backup your current system so you can restore everything just in case things get bad!
  2. Now, copy download ROM files (system.img, cust.img, boot.img) to SD card.
  3. Boot into TWRP and go to “Wipe” > “Advanced” and select “Dalvik/ART Cache, Cache, Data, Cust”. Swipe to confirm.
  4. Go to “Install” menu and select our ROM files:
    1. Select “system.img” and flash “System” partition.
    2. Select “cust.img” and flash “Cust” partition.
    3. Select “boot.img” and flash “Boot” partition.
  5. Warning! ensure you go to “Advanced” > “Tools” > “Disable Boot Verify” and disable boot partition encryption, otherwise official ROM won’t start.
  6. Reboot into system.
